Area\nStudies was already an established common field of interest between colonial\npowers and academia at the same time. In the era that followed the crisis of\nrepresentation in Anthropology and Cultural Studies, the examination of space,\nculture, and borders became a prominent field for studying and deconstructing\nworld politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Drawing on the afore-mentioned genealogy, the panel\nwill explore how these epistemological shifts and the ensuing interdisciplinary\napproaches can help us revisit the concepts of \u2018Area Studies\u2019 and \u2018regional\ntraditions\u2019, while at the same time, both Social Anthropology and Cultural\nstudies inform the content of academic curricula: what do categories like\n\u2018world\u2019, \u2018globality\u2019, \u2018region\u2019, \u2018locality\u2019, \u2018culture\u2019, imagination,\nrepresentation and creativity etc. mean and signify today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, we are exploring the new challenges and\npossibilities, geographies and genealogies of Area Studies engaged previously\nto current Western-centric geopolitics, which could generate critical and\ndeconstructive approaches of anthropology and semiotics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What are the new methodological fields of knowledge and belonging?<\/li><li>What kind of metaphors, representations and performances do they offer as analytical possibilities of understanding, complementary to the social analysis?<\/li><li>How could an Area Studies perspective create new epistemological challenges, bringing together politics and dispositions of the elites and the powerless?<\/li><li>In what ways do critical anthropological and semiotic approaches transcend or (re)frame, and produce cultural, material and other symbolic boundaries related to colonial technologies?<\/li><li>Are there possibilities to establish comparative perspectives inside\/outside the Area that could stress the significant experiences of the powerless, such as minorities,      refugees, women?<\/li><li>How do they create such decolonial \u2018context\u2019 giving voice and meaning to the \u2018other correlated or co-creative stories\u2019 than the national histories?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Keywords<\/strong><br>\nsocial anthropology, area studies, borders, colonial geographies, decolonial\npossibilities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SUBMISSION UNTIL: <strong>&nbsp;MARCH 31<sup>ST<\/sup>&nbsp; via platform (https:\/\/www.semioticsworld.com\/submissions\/ )<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.semioticsworld.com\/\">https:\/\/www.semioticsworld.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CALL FOR ABSTRACTS PANEL: WORLD SEMIOTICS, ANTHROPOLOGY, CULTURAL AND AREA STUDIES, Beyond Geopolitics Abstract The linguistic turn in the 1960s gave rise to a new exploration and appreciation of space (social, symbolic, imagined etc.).
