<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\nWithin the framework of the Cycle The Things We Said in the Past Still Hold True<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n (A Journey to Voden\u00e1 by Markos Meskos)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n on Wednesday, 29\/11\/2023<\/strong>, from 18:00 to 20:00<\/strong>, at the Cultural Venue of Islahane<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We invite our students and the public of our city to a free screening of the film “The Things We Said in the Past Still Hold True” about the poet Markos Meskos and his work. We believe that the combination of poetic language and cinematic perspective can open horizons of knowledge and sensitivity in an era when these are needed more than anything else. Markos Meskos (1935-2017) captures in his poems the overwhelming experience of life in civil war and post-civil war Greece, the bitterness of the persecution of his mother tongue, and his love for the landscape and people of his homeland, western Macedonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The film, a chronicle of a friend’s pilgrimage to his grave, framed by the beautiful music of Markos’ fellow countryman and friend, Kostas Theodorou (Dine Doneff), leads us through the protagonist’s journey to an acquaintance with Markos Meskos’ poetry and a reflection on his censored, forbidden mother tongue.
